Labelling Files and Folders

Labelling files and folders of the contents pages of a Web site is very important, especially because this name appears in the URL of the pages.

TSome advice:

  • use meaningful names, i.e. names that have meaning. (Example, not 01.htm but museum.html)
  • don’t use CAPITAL LETTERS: Each file should only contain lower case.
  • don’t use spaces between characters,
  • if a document has a draft, or more than one version, put the date in the file name. For example: programme04-06-01. Always use the same format for the date. For example year-month-day.
